The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. CNAG-CRG researchers participate in major International Genomic Initiatives such as the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in several EU-funded projects.

It is integrated with the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG shares principles of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team that is supported by high-end and innovative technologies and a flexible and efficient administration.

CRG has been conferred with a badge of ‘HR Excellence in Research’ by the European Commission, in recognition to its progress in implementing the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers, that among others consists of transparent, merit-based recruitment procedures and attractive work-life balance working conditions.

The role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Scientific Project Manager to join the CRG International and Scientific Affairs (ISA) team. The position is within the framework of one project funded by the European Commission H2020 Programme and coordinated by Dr Ivo Gut, CNAG-CRG Director. The project, “European Advanced infraStructure for Innovative Genomics ” (EASI-Genomics), aims at integrating a set of large Research Infrastructures providing advanced sequencing services and opening them to the European research community.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful management and implementation of the EASI-Genomics project, and will work closely with both the Coordinator and ISA team as well as the CRG offices for research grants, technology transfer, financial management, and communication.

Job duties include:

  • - Managing the project to ensure compliance with EU regulations and deadlines.
  • - Promoting communication and collaborations among the partners as well as with relevant initiatives, consortia, and other European projects.
  • - Ensuring that reports, deliverables, and milestones are completed in a timely fashion.
  • - Organizing project events, meetings, workshops, phone conferences, etc.
  • - Acting as an advisor to partners on scientific, administrative, and horizontal issues, including ethical, legal, and social aspects.
  • - Managing the content of the project websites and ensuring dissemination of project results to the scientific community and the general public.

 

About the team/ lab/ department

The ISA Department focuses on strengthening the international and interdisciplinary dimension of the CRG and creating new opportunities in projects, training and collaborations for the scientific community. Dr Ivo Gut leads the Biomedical Genomics group at the CNAG-CRG, focused on data mining, analysis and re-analysis of genomic data from biomedical studies. He leads the RD-Connect platform development (www.rd-connect.eu) and participates in several cancer related projects such as the EU funded project BCAST on Breast Cancer and the MedPercan project, a Catalan pilot project to study the impact of genomics in decision making in oncology. He also coordinates the ICGC mutation calling benchmark and is the chair of the ICGC PanCancer QC Working Group.

Whom would we like to hire?

Studies: You hold a University degree in life sciences or related fields, preferably with a PhD degree.

Languages: You have excellent command of spoken and written English, knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan would be useful.

Required experience and skills:

  • - You have research experience in an international environment.
  • - You have previous experience in project management.
  • - You have previous involvement in European or other international grants and/or in organizing scientific meetings, training events, and/or workshops.
  • - You have good knowledge of European policies.
  • - You have strong IT skills (excel, Power Point, content management systems, etc.).
  • - You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • - You are a good team player with the ability to work independently.
  • - You are precise, with attention to details, and well-organized.
  • - You are proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude.

 

The Offer

  • - Duration: full-time contract for 12 months, with possibility to extend it.
  • - Estimated annual gross salary: A competitive salary will be provided (adjusted according to experience).
  • - Starting date: February 1st, 2019.
