Description:

Location:

Office in Barcelona [Spain].

Date of Publication:

About Us:

The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe.

The CNAG Consortium aims to carry out large-scale projects in DNA/RNA analysis for the improvement of quality of life in collaboration with the Spanish, European and International Research Community. CNAG researchers participate in major International Genome Initiatives such as the Human Cell Atlas (HCA), the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC), the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in several EU-funded projects.

The Role

The candidate will be integrated in the Spatial Genomics Team, a highly collaborative, international and multidisciplinary environment made up of experts in single-cell and spatial data production, analysis and interpretation. She/he will be involved in the development, implementation and execution of spatial transcriptomics analysis pipelines. The candidate will also be involved in collaborative efforts with our research and clinical partners and diverse production efforts of healthy and diseased human/mouse tissue maps.

The position will be related to immuno-oncology projects, which aim is to understand the spatial composition of tumor samples and the spatial molecular/cellular basis of immuno-therapy action by applying multi-omics single-cell and spatial characterization of healthy and tumor/tissues.

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative thinking individual who is interested in working in an environment where the technical sophistication of single-cell and spatial technologies meets innovative approaches for interpreting data and generating new knowledge in the biomedical field. We require the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary context on collaborative projects. We encourage and prioritize applications from under-represented minority groups.

  • The successful candidate is expected to enter a plan for the progress of the work towards a PhD degree during the first months of the appointment, with a view to completing a doctorate within the PhD scholarship period (4 years).

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Analyze multi-modal single-cell and spatial genomics and proteomics data to identify mechanisms driving the emergence and/or progression of disease.
  • Create and refine computational tools and pipelines for spatial data analysis.
  • Develop and apply statistical methods to integrate multi-omics, spatial, classical histopathology and clinical data.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including biologists, clinicians, and other computational scientists, to design and execute research projects.
  • Thrive on meeting challenges, insist on high quality deliverables, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and possess the ability to build productive external and internal relationships.

Whom would we like to hire?

  • MSc in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or similar
  • Experience/knowledge in analysis of modern omics data (e.g., scRNA-seq, sequencing- and imaging-based spatial transcriptomics)
  • Experience/knowledge in statistical and/or machine learning-based modeling of different omics and integrating information across multiple omics
  • Keen on bridging between developing computational methods and their application in a biomedical research context
  • Good problem-solving skills, time management and strategic thinking.
  • Strong commitment to high-quality work
