About Us:

The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe.

The CNAG Consortium aims to carry out large-scale projects in DNA/RNA analysis for the improvement of quality of life in collaboration with the Spanish, European and International Research Community. CNAG researchers participate in major International Genome Initiatives such as the Human Cell Atlas (HCA), the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC), the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in several EU-funded projects.

The Role

The candidate will be integrated in the Spatial Genomics Team, a highly collaborative, international and multidisciplinary environment made up of experts in single-cell and spatial data production and analysis. She/he will be involved in the development, implementation and execution of spatial transcriptomics applications, including the experimental and analytical part. The candidate will also be involved in collaborative efforts with our research and clinical partners and diverse production efforts of healthy and diseased human/mouse tissue maps. The position will be related to immuno-oncology projects, which aim is to understand the spatial composition of tumor samples and the spatial molecular/cellular basis of immuno-therapy action by applying multi-omics single-cell and spatial characterization of healthy and tumor/tissue microenvironment cells.

The primary responsibilities of this role are:

Establish and optimize protocols for spatial genomic applications, including detection of DNA, transcripts and proteins.

Design controlled spatial genomic experiments in collaboration with internal and external partners and coordinate their implementation to enable project success.

Strong motivation and proactivity to interpret images and tissue structures/features.

Analyze transcriptomics results for quality assessment and evaluation of experimental success.Work with dedicated computational colleagues to explore and guide in-depth data analyses.

Thrive on meeting challenges, insist on high quality deliverables, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and possess the ability to build productive external and internal relationships.

Confident communication skills in English.

The Spatial Genomics Team

The Spatial Genomics Team at CNAG is at the forefront of understanding how gene expression is spatially regulated at the tissue level, aiming to accelerate discoveries and advance treatments in the biomedical field.

The mission is to establish Spatial Transcriptomics and other Spatial Tissue Profiling techniques as standard tools for next-generation pathology, harnessing the prognostic value of tissue resections and biopsies. We successfully established protocols to quantify gene expression in tissues (Nanostring CosMx, 10X Xenium/Visium, BGI Stereo-seq) and have developed state-of-the-art analysis pipelines particularly designed for spatial data. Our international team joins technical, computational and biological knowledge in order to promote creative thinking while establishing best practices in single-cell and spatial research. The group combines collaborative research, development activities and follows research lines on the generation of human cell atlases and immuno-oncology.

We are looking for a specialized technician in histopathology with broad experience in tissue preparation and sectioning, staining, including IHC and IF, microscopy and digital image analysis. We require the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary context on collaborative projects and to engage in technology and protocol establishing/development. We encourage and prioritize applications from under-represented minority groups.

Whom would we like to hire?

Bachelor degree in pathology, biomedicine or veterinary.

Experience/knowledge in spatial genomics techniques and/or other tissue profiling approaches.

Experience/knowledge in histopathology: from tissue preparation to image analysis.

Good problem-solving skills, time management and strategic thinking.

Strong commitment to high-quality work.

Collaborative spirit to work in a diverse team.
