The CNAG Data Analysis team organised the 2nd CNAG Workshop “Introduction to Genome Analysis” on April 6th, 2016. Sergi Beltran, Sophia Derdak, Raul Tonda and Steven Laurie gave seminars and led an extensive hands-on session. The main topics of the workshop were to explain the principles of genomic analysis and ways to customize it, while providing our collaborators guidelines and resources to maximize their results.

The 17 participants came from various renowned biomedical institutions across Spain, including the CNIO, the IRB, the Fundación Pública Gallega de Medicina Xenómica, the IDIVAL, the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, the UPF, the Hospital Universitari de Sabadell, the Hospital St Joan de Deu and the Servicio Madrileño de Salud. Most of the participants work in human clinical genomic research, many of them in the field of cancer.

The hands-on sessions dealing with variant filtration and visual inspection of variants in the Integrative Genomics Viewer were particularly successful and interactive, with many examples and specific questions discussed. Last but not least, the participants came up with very interesting suggestions and requests which will help the CNAG improve the informative value of the results we deliver
