The CNAG participates in the PhD Express, an activity aimed at high school students. The goal is to do a sort of 'express doctorate' in a couple of hours.
The PhD Express, an activity organized by the Barcelona Science Park, took place on November 19th and 21st. More than 150 students, divided into 4 groups, were invited to reconstruct the various stages that a researcher has to go through to develop a doctoral thesis project.
This year, and under the title 'How do we identify genetic mutations involved in cancer?', the theme of the research work focused on the analysis of the behavioral differences between malignant and benign tumor cells from the point of view of gene activity. The students had the possibility of building their own reserach project setting a set of clues that took them through several labs located at the PCB such as the CNAG, the IRB Barcelona and PCB Core Scientific Services. At the CNAG, the students visited the sequencing lab and the data center where several researchers guided them through the different steps followed to perform genome analysis.
