Barcelona, 25 April 2022.- OmicsTech has been renewed as member of the National Map of Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) 2021-2024, approved by the “Consejo de Política Científica, Tecnológica y de Innovación”, chaired by the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant.
OmicsTech is a distributed ICTS formed by the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG), the Proteomics Unit of the CRG and UPF and the Centre for Omic Sciences (COS), managed by the Eurecat technology centre and the URV. The facility offers the research community the possibility of using unique facilities dedicated exclusively to omics technologies, with a broad spectrum of biomolecular analysis tools that provide a holistic view of biological processes.
Advances in genomics, proteomics and metabolomics technologies have opened new ways to understand the molecular mechanisms of diseases and the behaviour of cells, tissues and organs. OmicsTech's objective is to promote Omics Sciences in Spain, satisfying the growing demand for these technologies and ensuring competitiveness in the fields of Biomedicine, Biology and the Agri-Food sector. There are very few facilities with similar characteristics and capabilities, in terms of technological diversification, state-of-the-art instrumentation and bioinformatics expertise.
The objective of the ICTS Map is to support the development of cutting-edge scientific-technical infrastructures with very high investment and/or maintenance and operational cost and whose importance and strategic nature justifies their availability for competitive open access for the entire R&D&i community.
The update of this map, which is carried out every four years, is based on criteria of the highest scientific, technological and innovation quality and is carried out by the “Comité Asesor de Infraestructuras Singulares”. The fifteen members of the committee are experts in a wide range of scientific-technological subjects and come from the scientific, technological and management fields of recognised prestige in R&D&i.
Other reference elements for the update of the ICTS Map come from the European context, in particular the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 2021-2027 (Horizon Europe), the Roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and the new programming period 2021-2027 of the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). The ultimate aim of this Map is to optimally plan the application of national, regional and European funding, particularly ERDF funds and Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan funds, to support ICTSs and ensure a stable medium-term funding framework to guarantee the achievement of their objectives.
