Simon Heath leads the Bioinformatics Development and Statistical Genomics team and is the Manager of the Functional Genomics unit.
He studied Zoology at the University of Oxford, and obtained his Ph.D. in Quantitative Genetics from the University of Edinburgh in 1995. From 1995 to 1997 he was a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Statistics at the University of Washington, Seattle. In late 1997 he joined the Rockefeller University in New York as an Assistant Professor in the Laboratory of Statistical Genetics, later moving in 1999 to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York as an Assistant Member. In 2001 he joined the Centre National de Génotypage (CNG) in Evry, France as group leader in Statistical Genetics, and from 2007 to 2010 was the head of the Laboratory of Statistics and Informatics at the CNG. He is an author on more than 150 research papers, and has written publically available software for genetic analysis that is used in many centers worldwide.
